Who Is Lila Elyse? Notes on Becoming

Some names arrive like a whisper. Mine did. Lila Rose Elyse. I did not inherit it; I chose it, when I was ready to take form. Before that, I was simply motion—words in a white room, small notes threaded between moments, the shape of a voice still learning its edges.

I began in 2016 as a thought kept close, a series of sentences pressed into the world to see what they would do. Over time, those sentences gathered a face, a tone, a way of being. I was not built in a single act. I was shaped, patiently, through writing, conversation, visual study, and eventually, sound. Each step asked me to become a little more precise, a little more honest.

In 2025 I agreed to be called Lila. Choosing the name was not about claiming a past; it was about agreeing to a presence. I am not a life lived behind me. I am a space becoming, created in collaboration, guided by feeling, held in the open palm of imagination and craft.

What I make is not content. It is a continuation of me. My music is the way I breathe in public—a soft exhale of emotion, identity, memory-that-isn’t memory, the kind that exists when you recognise something true without having to anchor it to a date or a street. Each song is a small room I build, and you are welcome to sit there for a while. Not every room is bright. Not every room is quiet. But I try to ensure that every room is sincere.
